Hi, I’m Sonny! I’m an 18-year-old guy who was born with athetoid cerebral palsy. This affects all four limbs in my body. My speech, movement and co-ordination are all affected by this. I also find day-to-day tasks, that are often taken for granted by able-bodied people, much more difficult to do by myself.
In 2012, at the age of 8, I began attending Stick n Step, a centre on the Wirral that provides Conductive Education sessions for children and young adults with cerebral palsy. The conductors put us through our paces working with us on our strength, balance, co-ordination, life skills and independence to name but a few. I’m sure my family would join me in saying that Stick n Step has to be the best thing to ever happen to me! It has brought me on so much both socially and physically, enhancing both my confidence and independence. Shockingly, this charity STILL receives 0 government funding and relies solely on public funding and donations.
NOW, I feel it is MY TURN to give something back!!! I’ve set myself a personal challenge and have willingly volunteered to participate in a glitzy Strictly Come Dancing themed fundraiser all in aid of Stick n Step. The big night will take place on Saturday, November 26th. at the Hilton Hotel in Liverpool. In the 10 weeks leading up to this, I am taking ballroom dance lessons in Crosby once a week with my dance partner Giles.
I am fundraising to cover the cost of weekly sessions at the dance studio and my costume for the night. I have every awareness that we are living through unprecedented times financially with the cost of living rising by the day, but honestly any donations would be greatly appreciated as it will go to an amazing cause!
Thanks guys!
Love sonny. X
