Story
Hey guys! Thanks so much for visiting my fundraising page.
I'll be running the London Landmarks Half Marathon on 7th April 2024 for the CoppaFeel! charity.
This run is for my fabulous sister-in-law Dee, who was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer in November 2022 aged just 40. She underwent a single mastectomy a month later which removed all of the cancer, and she was fortunate enough to need no other treatment other than long-term medication. Mum of two teenagers and a freelance health writer of over 8 years, she’s committed to helping raising awareness of breast cancer in younger women and the importance of checking your breasts regularly, irrespective of your age.
I also run for Kirsty. We never actually met, but she was a huge part of my life. Pregnant with Jessica in 2014, I joined an online birth board, made loads of virtual friends, and no matter the topic of discussion, or the time, Kirsty was always there with her advice or an lmao, rotfl or pmsl. Sadly, she lost her battle in December 2020. I think about Kirsty often, and I know we definitely would have shared a bottle of wine or 10 by now..
I began my running journey in May 2021, with a local running group that had just been created in the field behind my house. I thought I'd give it a try and never expected to go back, but it was Covid, and I'd had to give up my gym membership. Well, here I am a few years later, still loving it, still running, and now training for a half marathon. Regular at Parkrun, and even bring Jessica along too. If you'd have told me I'd be doing this 5 years ago, 3 years ago even, I'd have laughed so much. I'll never be quick, it won't be pretty, but I'm doing it, and if I can help just 1 person it will all be worth it.
Look out for additional fundraising bits on my Facebook, WhatsApp, and with the team at Snodhurst!
CoppaFeel! are the first UK breast cancer charity to create awareness amongst young people, with the aim to instil a new healthy behaviour that could one day save a life. They are on a mission to ensure breast cancer is diagnosed early and correctly by getting the nation to check their boobs/chest regularly. They want to educate people on the signs and symptoms of breast cancer, encourage them to get to know what is normal for them and empower young people to have the confidence to see a doctor if they notice anything that isn't right for them.
Any donations in helping me reach my target are greatly appreciated, not just by me, but by those affected by breast cancer.
Much love,
Sonia
