Story
Thank you for visiting Somerset Badger Group's page. The money you donate today will go towards the Somerset Badger Group vaccination & training programme. Badger Trust will pay for equipment, plus any other resources required by Somerset Badger Group, to the total amount of all funds raised on their behalf. Currently all vaccination and training is being done by volunteers who are giving up their time for free.
Somerset Badger Group set up a badger vaccination initiative in 2012 and under licence from Natural England the volunteers successfully vaccinated 62 badgers over an area of approx 1200 acres, within the Somerset cull area. This covers 3 commercial farms and 5 other land holdings, with additional farms to include this year. The second year of vaccination is underway already.
The primary aim of the group initiative is to offer farmers and land owners within the West Somerset cull area a responsible and sensible alternative to culling. It is not too late for farmers to change their mind and the group is prepared to offer badger vaccination to farmers, for a small charge based on each badger vaccinated, if they withdraw from the badger cull.
Earlier this year we ran a prize draw with some wonderful artists & a photographer who contributed to the cause and the prizes donated have all since found homes.
Matt Sewell kindly donated a unique painting of a badger he did specially for the prize draw. Matt has published two books, 'Our Garden Birds' & 'Our Song Birds' amongst a number of other projects. www.mattsewell.co.uk
David Lloyd donated a British wildlife print to use in the prize draw. His award winning photography has graced the Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition to name a few. David photographed his first badger this year in Somerset. www.davidlloyd.net
Jonathan Edwards donated an illustrated badger in his own unique style. Jonathan has illustrated for The Guardian, Radio Times, Time Out, Glastonbury Festival and The big Issue to name a few. http://www.jonathan-e.com/
