Story
The past few months have been really tough for everyone. For people who are affected by Dementia (around 850,000 people in the UK) and who are reliant on the crucial support services provided by the Alzheimer's Society, COVID-19 has had an unimaginable impact. Whilst they are working tirelessly to support as many people as possible, their fundraising income is at risk and they are already estimating the loss of donations to be in the millions.
A group of approximately 25 of us (many of whom have a particular aversion to running!) from Somerset Gryphons Hockey Club are therefore putting on our running shoes during lockdown, and we are aiming to run 1000 miles in total between 5 November 2020 and 2 December 2020. This will help the Alzheimer's Society be there for those who need them the most.
We would be grateful for any donation, be it 50p or £5.00. Here are some examples of what your fundraising will support:-
1. £9.90 will begin someone's Dementia Connect journey by providing the first conversation with a telephone based Dementia Adviser.
2. Telephone - based Dementia Advisers give essential support across the three nations, and £95.00 can support them for a full day.
3. Just £3.83 turns an ordinary citizen into a Dementia Friend, who helps bring societal change, waking people up to the truth about Dementia and helping them understand the impact that this has on people's lives.
We will continue to post updates on this page, so please come back to track our progress! Thank you in advance for any donation, it is greatly appreciated.
