Story
On 16 October, I will be joining my amazing friends from
Crossfit Solent Lymington (past and Present) to take part at Battle Cancer London 2022.
Like so many of us, unfortunately we have all been affected by cancer in some way and as a group are determined to make a small difference.
Last year, shortly after taking part at this event, one of my close friends in the team was sadly diagnosed with Cancer. I am so happy to say, that after treatment, they have successfully recovered from this horrible disease and will be taking part this year.
This year we will be raising money for the Battle Cancer Programme who provide FREE training programmes to those returning to exercise after cancer treatment and also preventative programmes to reduce the risk of cancer for those at high-risk or suffering from serious illness such as diabetes, heart disease, obesity, or impaired movement.
When people undergo or complete treatment for cancer they're often left to return to "life as usual," but for them, that no longer exists.
To those of you that haven’t experienced the post chemo return to exercise, it’s TOUGH. Managing crazy heart rates, limited red blood cells which makes oxygen availability difficult meaning your muscles SCREAM whatever you do, slow recovery, cramps & spasm’s..the list is not limited to the above and goes on.
Battle Cancer engages people who have experienced cancer in a meaningful pathway of structured &progressive exercise rehabilitation that builds physical confidence and independence, and a belief in a better quality of life and health for the future.
Battle Cancer’s Mission
Our mission is to inspire, support and unite people with
one goal: kicking cancer into the dust.
We want to drive a movement that helps those
affected by cancer, to inspire them in their darkest moments and support them
in recovery.
Our work is threefold and aims to:
- Raise awareness and funds for cancer
charities by delivering epic fundraising events - Together we will battle cancer, and together
we will win.
We also have our own charity, The Battle Cancer Program,
which supports people post-cancer with fully-funded fitness programs.
