Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I've decided to raise money for YMCA One by going to Antarctica which I am going to self-fund myself. To just get to Antarctica, it’s going to take five days of travelling, including boarding a vessel from Ushuaia Argentina which is actually the Southern most place on the planet . So that in itself is going to be quite mentally challenging, alongside the fact that I’ll be doing the initially travelling myself. I'll be mountaineering for up for up 6-7 hours per day for 2-3 days - Mountaineering hikes will take me into the glaciated areas. These areas can expose me to crevasses, which require a little caution than non-glaciated ground. Also I will hit more vertical climbs and I'll be roped together for my protection around the glacier crevasses.
I will also have to prepare myself for camping out in sub-zero temperatures in the South Pole. Regulations mean its forbidden for taking any fuel or artificial heating equipment on shore.
Exploring in general in Antarctica will require me to be sensible and have a flexible approach. Although there can be bright skies with sunshine the weather is unpredictable. Catabatic winds, caused by the icecaps and glaciers, can pick up suddenly and are a fierce opponent for polar travellers.
