Story
Two days after Christmas Day 2017, Dad went into Coventry’s Myton Hospice.
Two days later, we celebrated, as much as we could, his and our Uncle Frank’s 60th birthday in a space Myton had provided for us with the majority of friends and family able to visit (I don’t think they realised how big our family was when we asked…).
As that next evening turned into the morning of NYE, we lost him.
Those final moments we were able to share with Dad before he passed away are ones that we go to often. We can tell you what songs were repeatedly on the radio, what food family arrived with to make sure we were eating and what film we watched one night when we got home and needed to decompress (Shrek, if you’re interested).
We can also tell you that we were so well looked after, in a place that felt homely, and made some of the worst days of our lives somewhat bearable.
It’s a privilege to be able to peacefully pass away surrounded by so many people who love you and Myton provide this, and so much more, every single day.
Last year they were able to support 2,000 families like ours and to continue to be able to do this they need to raise over £10.5 million.
So Kira, Shannon and I are taking part in The Myton Hospices Snowdon for Sunrise Challenge to help them raise vital funds. This goes to providing dedicated care and support for people with terminal illnesses, and their families, in their inpatient beds and in the community.
Appreciate that times are tough and pennies are being pinched everywhere, but any donation you can give will go a long way to helping them hit their fundraising goal.
