Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
In 2007 a routine eye test picked up that my then girlfriend (now wife, Lisa) had a rare eye condition know as Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP). This we have since learned covers several conditions, most of which result in tunnel vision and night blindness.
In Lisa's case it was initially her peripheral vision that was noted as being an issue. This resulted in Lisa having her driving license revoked on Valentines Day 2008. This was a devastating event as it basically stripped Lisa of her independence. Lisa also now struggles to find her way when light levels are low and requires guiding when in busy areas as she does not see people coming from either side who could bump into her.
As bad as Lisa's symptons are there are many out there who are far worse, either in terms of suffering with the condition from birth or having completely lost their sight.
Unfortunately at this moment in time, despite significant advances there is still no cure for RP. The main hurdle to this being that there is not enough funding available to bankroll the research necessary to identify the genes responsible and potential cures.
In order to try and do something to help myself and some of Lisa's family and friends decided to do a seemingly stupid thing. On 25 June 2011 myself and Lisa's Sister, Andrea climbed Snowdon, blindfolded!, assisted by the rest of the team.
To gain some indication of just how difficult this was just try walking to the other side of your room with your eyes shut. Now imagine this for 5 miles on uneven ground whilst climbing 3,560ft. It was not easy.
We would greatly appreciate any sponsorship you can give us, no matter how small, to make it worth our while doing such a ridiculous thing.
