Story
UPDATE: Had a fantastic race, ran the whole marathon non-stop in 3hrs 57mins 4secs. It was mental and physical torture but I got there and beat all my targets!! This page will stay open after the race so there is still time to donate. Massive thanks to all those who have already donated!
For the past few months I have given up a huge amount of time to train almost every day to prepare for the massive challenge of running the Dublin marathon. It has taken strong willpower, hundreds of miles of running and many sacraficed weekends. At the end of it all I will have to run for 26.2 miles to reach my goal.
I have decided to do this for an extremely worthy charity; MacMillan Cancer Support. For those of you unfamiliar with the charity, they provide support to people affected by cancer, giving many people and their families vital practical, emotional, medical and financial support at a time they desperately need help. From personal experience, MacMillan were a fantastic help in the latter stages of my dad's illness before he died in May 2007. The nurses do an amazing job and this will help them provide the best care possible for people in that terrible position.
I'm not asking you to train almost daily for months, I'm not asking you to give up countless weekends to run for miles on end, all I am asking is that you make a contribution to the charity by sponsoring me for this marathon.
Chances are you will have or will be affected by cancer, please give to an extremely worthy cause.
Any contributions greatly appreciated.
Many thanks,
Steve McCann
