Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

Brother and Sister Matthew & Melanie Collins are jumping for joy at the prospect of giving back to the community. We're so pleased, we're going to jump right out of a plane to prove it. We can only jump with YOUR support and encouragement, as we are not the Brother & Sister (our older siblings) known for our spontanious and adventurous antics. We are normally better known for our low impact TV watching and games console playing!!!!

WHY ARE WE GETTING OFF THE SOFA THEN??

Simple answer=we want to raise £750 for Yorkhill Childrens Hospital

Alternative answer=Matthew and I were inspired by different readings:

Mahatma Gandhi once said "We must become the change we want to see" & as far back as biblical times it was quoted "do for others as you would like to have done for you"

PERSONAL EXPERIENCE:3 Good Reasons

1.:The hospital has helped Matthew and the family when he became resident there for almost 6 months when he was 13 and diagnosed with diabetes.

2.Melanie's son Nathaniel (main picture) had a condition called gastroschisis where his intestines grew outside of his body. This is just one of hundreds of conditions that Glasgow can deal with. More commonly; child cancer, leukaemia, spina bifida, diabetes to name but a few

3.Matthew's new addition due in October will also benefit from the hospital and may require one of the machines purchased already by Yorkhill Childrens Foundation? As Doctors have indicated that he has spina bifida, he will need to be in intesive care for a notable period after his birth. Giving something back to the unit is another way of appreciating the staff there.

Lets make sure Glasgow Sick Childrens has ongoing support and the equipment they need. .It's enough to have a child unwell, without the worry of being away from your support network and having to think about travel, cost & accomodation.

BIGGER PICTURE: 35000 A & E attendances, 90,000 out-patients, 15,000 in-patients, 7,300 daycases EVERY YEAR. These numbers are approx 150,000 helpless babies & children who have families desperate for them to recover and who are experiencing a traumatic time. Some wishing the hospital had more specialist equipment to offer a better chance of survival, others worried how they will juggle and finance stays and travel to hospital with; the care of other children at home/work commitments or similar life activities.

CHALLENGES:The NHS doesn't provide all of the machines needed to keep these babies/children alive and receiving care. The money you give also helps Glasgow stay at the forefront of new research and procudeures, to ensure children living in Scotland can be cared for here. That's why lots of little gestures add up to make life saving changes.

SOLUTION:It has been said that CHARITY BEGINS AT HOME, lets help our friends, family and neighbours as WHAT GOES AROUND COMES AROUND. Children from all around the UK are airlifted, transported & admitted to the hospital each year, although primarily children from Scotland. By generously giving a donation/sponsorship you can genuinely help.

YOUR PART:

Please give a donation of whatever size-it all adds up

Please tick gift aid so that we can claim back basic rate tax

Remember every £1 you give, BARCLAYS have kindly agreed to match that *up to value of £750

All the money you give goes to the charity as we have paid for our own parachute jumps and travel. So pat yourself on the back and know you have done well today.
