Story
As some of you are aware I am a 2019 Miss Scotland Finalist and as part of my journey I am raising awareness for a charity called ‘Heads Up Scotland’ which is affiliated to Cancer Support Scotland. I am looking forward to help raise awareness for such an outstanding charity that doesn’t get enough recognition.
‘Heads Up Scotland’ is a support group that’s close to my heart as some of you are aware I recently lost my Grandad to cancer which originated in his throat. When my Grandad was first diagnosed we couldn’t find any information or support specifically for head and neck cancer sufferers. We found Heads Up Scotland after searching social media.
‘Heads Up’ Scotland’ was founded to give support to sufferers of head and neck cancer and their families in 2013. Support can be through the weekly drop in meetings where group or one to one support is available and also to direct them to practical support such as the Maggie Centre or Cancer Support Scotland.
Before 2013 there were little or no groups to provide support specifically for head and neck cancer sufferers. ‘Heads Up Scotland’ has provided funding towards a specialised theatre tool and robotic surgery, and will be providing funding for an awareness raising project run by ENT consultants to look into why there is a spike in head and neck cancers in the West of Scotland where patients are presenting with later stage symptoms which are proving much harder to treat.
Head and Neck cancer is one of the cancers that isn’t largely funded by NHS Scotland. I would like to give appreciation and thanks for my Grandads care and support.
As one of my fundraising events on Sunday the 2nd of June I will be challenging myself to a Sky Dive in St Andrews, for me this is the biggest challenge of my life as I am frightened of heights! Please help me by donating whatever you can by using the ‘Give Now’ button.
Thank you in advance for your generosity it means a lot!!!
