Story
As many will know, I have volunteered for and supported the Thanet Winter Shelter for the last 3 years, and am doing the same this year. The Winter Shelter is run by the Salvation Army, Ramsgate and provides safe, warm bed spaces and hot meals, for rough-sleepers through the coldest months of the year.
This is the 5th year that the shelter has been running, and also the most challenging due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The previous model of using church halls with shared bed spaces is not permitted, therefore the shelter this year is quite different, with a fixed location, 24/7 operation and self-contained accommodation. This is much better for our guests, as it provides a stable environment and greater opportunity to engage with the RISE (Rough sleeper Intervention, Support and Empowerment) team, and get the help needed to bring about change, however this provision is also much more costly than in previous years.
In order to raise much needed funds for the 2020-21 Winter shelter I have decided to take a leap of faith and undertake a tandem skydive. On 20th March, 2021 (earliest date available) Robin will return for another dare-devil fund-raiser and I will be throwing myself out of a plane at around 10,000 feet, all in the name of charity!
I will be personally funding the cost of the jump so ALL proceeds from this event will go immediately to the Thanet Winter Shelter. This page has been set up under the Salvation Army charity but all donations will be transferred to the local corps at Ramsgate, for the Thanet Winter Shelter.
Thank you for your support - see you on the ground!
