Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

Swimming around Skomer Island – how hard can it be?  Well, quite hard potentially!

That is exactly what we (David Astins and Amanda Love) intend to do in August 2022.

Why?  For the challenge of course!  And to raise some money for the vitally important conservation work on Skomer undertaken by the Wildlife Trust South and West Wales.

Amanda is no stranger to endurance swimming events, which culminated in 2019 in a solo English Channel swim which she completed in 12 hours 53 minutes.  Epic!

David is also a fairly accomplished swimmer, in 2014 he swam from the Pembrokeshire mainland to Skokholm Island, 2 years later he swam around Skokholm, and in 2019 he and Amanda swam around RSPB Ramsey Island, the toughest one yet!

The swim will take place in early August and we are hoping the 9km swim (approximately) will take around 3 hours.  We are extremely grateful for Natural Resources Wales and the staff of the Skomer Marine Conservation Zone who will provide us with safety cover as we attempt this challenge.

Through this challenge we are highlighting the importance of the work on Skomer and marine conservation generally, so we hope you will support us by sponsoring us in this challenge.

Thank you!
