Story
We ' Sisters of Murphy' are running the 2019 Virgin Money London Marathon (yes - that's 26.2 miles...!) on Sunday 28 April.
We are raising money for the Samaritans in memory of our cousin, Peter who sadly took his own life last year.
Samaritans volunteers work around the clock, 24-hours per day, 365 days of the year, ready to listen to someone in desperate need of help or struggling to cope.
The vast majority of people who feel suicidal do not actually want to die; they just do not want to live the life they have.
The distinction may seem very narrow, but is in fact very important which is why talking through other options at the right time is so vital.
Indeed, Peter wasnt known to have had mental health issues and we will never know if he did ever call the Samaritans. However, raising awareness of the non-judgemental support they offer, enables people to realise that they do have options in times when they feel there is no way out.
Thank you for any support you can offer. It will go a long way in helping the Samaritans to continue to be there for approx. 1,440 people who contact the Samaritans each day feeling suicidal.
