Story
I am raising money for Bipolar UK following the death of my friend, Megan Barnes, at the end of last year. Meg was a good friend at uni, she was a ray of sunshine and was loved by all that knew her. Her life was tragically cut short by the disorder.
Bipolar disorder affects over a million people in the UK. It can be a devastating condition that affects not only the person with the illness but also their family. Bipolar UK is a charity that provides a range of services offering the support people need, when they need it. They make sure there's someone at the end of the phone to listen, a nearby group to share lived experiences, a 24-hour peer forum and more.
"Bipolar UK is here to support and empower more people affected by bipolar – a mental health diagnosis characterised by significant mood swings including manic highs and depressive lows. Bipolar disorder increases an individual’s risk of suicide by up to 20 times, and the diagnosis rates are only increasing, with young people more likely to screen positive than older people. It is our mission to support and empower more people affected by bipolar to live well with the condition; we currently help over 80,000 individuals and families a year through a blend of free services across the country.
It is our goal to ensure that everyone affected by this devastating condition can find the support they need when they need it."
