Story
Whitechapel Mission is dedicated to providing a lifeline to the poor and homeless of London, who struggle each day against hunger, poverty and exclusion. With the cost of living crisis in the UK, the number of homeless people living in London continues to rise, with extremely limited state support to get them back on their feet.
I have volunteered at Whitechapel Mission a few times for their breakfast challenge, where they provide a cooked breakfast for up to 350 people each day, in addition to clothing, toiletries and medical care. The team also provide wider life-skills and job-skills support, as well as addiction recovery. This happens every day - during COVID, with train strikes, in the snow and the rain - no matter the circumstance.
Every time I am there, I'm inspired by the work that the staff do and always want to do more to help. When I saw there was an opportunity to run for them in the London ASICS 10k in July it was a no brainer!
I'd hugely appreciate any donations for this wonderful organisation, and hopefully I can finish the race without embarrassing myself!
