Story
Time to rally the troops, search your pockets for pennies and donate to a most spectacular cause.
As many of your know my Dad (Charlie) was diagnosed with early on-set Alzheimers when I was 17, nearly 13 years ago. Since then life has changed a lot for all of our family. Alzheimers is a challenge, for want of a better word. (Imagine the way you viewed your world completely changing in a mode and rate that was far beyond your control. I can only imagine how scary that must be).
Two thirds of the cost of dementia is paid by people with dementia and their families. Unpaid carers supporting someone with dementia save the economy £11 billion a year (my rockstar mum being one of them!!)
What is even more concerning is that currently there are 850,000 people with dementia in the UK. Numbers are set to rise to over 1 million by 2025, 2 million by 2051. 225,000 will develop dementia this year, that's one every three minutes. Alzheimer's Society are helping to even out the discrepancy in funding as it is desperately underfunded. For every person living with dementia, the annual cost to the UK economy is over £30,000 and yet only £90 is spent on dementia research each year.
Help me to help one of my biggest champions, by donating anything you can. Every penny helps!
You are all obviously warmly welcomed to watch my tomato face run on the big day. FYI I am seriously undertrained for the task :)
