Story

Hello and thanks for taking the time to read about my very personal, somewhat mad challenge.

I turn 50 at the beginning of Feb (I mean....how did that happen?) and was determined not to let this be "The Big One" the Covid Grinch stole.  So, I decided to remember this milestone instead as the time I did something really worthwhile by raising money for dementia research.  Why?  Because this is a dreadful disease which steals those we love and we all deserve to grow old with dignity.  I'm an NHS doctor....please believe me.

I love a kitchen disco.  I always have.  One of my earliest memories is waltzing around the kitchen perched on my godfather's feet while mum tried to cook the Sunday roast around us.  That set the pattern for midnight boogieing in Uni digs (oh, INXS), Christmas tree decorating parties for two (Black Eyed Peas will always mean baubles to me!) and grand displays of Riverdance post dinner like any self respecting Irish girl.  Welllll, I had fun even if I wasn't going to score very highly from the Strictly judges.

So, I thought what better way to mark my birthday than in this tried and tested fashion.  From the morning of Saturday Jan 30th I'll be taking to the dance floor for 24 hours, with only a 5 minute break every hour to run to the loo/ change my socks/ sob a little.  Thanks to Covid it's a disco for one, though my amazing partner will be on hand with snacks and encouragement.  (He might even have a wee shimmy!)  Some of my friends have offered to remotely DJ for a couple of hours but, otherwise, it'll be a mix of playlists from my 5 decades interspersed with my trusted Radio 2.

It'll be a long night.  I've worked hard to get fitter and have discovered that I do have a core!  But I'll not lie, it's quite an undertaking and I am nervous.

I need your help.  Please, please consider sponsoring my effort- not for me but for this important research.  Even if you can't pledge any money, do please send some encouragement to get me through.  Oh and any suggestions for tunes to save me from The Nolans and Kids From Fame on a loop!  You can follow me on twitter on @AreeSinead.  And- thank you!
