So here is my story- roughly 5 years ago I got diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. I was told I'd be on 5 injections a day, my body wouldn't make insulin anymore. 4 years later I was still only on insulin for food but then 8 months ago I knew things were getting worse and during covid I became totally insulin dependent. What does that mean? I now inject constantly to keep me going. So I do inject 5 times a day, at least, and often more, particularly if I want a dessert!
Anyway, I'm fortunate I can manage it, running helps. But it can be exhausting. Having to constantly keep a balloon in the air while you do every other task in day to day life, is the best way I've seen it described. So I'm fundraising for all those keeping the balloon up, for the technology that is changing my life every day and will continue to help.
I can't promise I'll cross the finish line in a good time or at all, but my aim is to make it without a bad hypo or feeling really ill. So here goes. Belfast marathon, wish me luck, I feel I'll need it...
