As you may know, I began running with the Couch to 5K programme in November 2019 - perfect timing for it to keep me sane during the pandemic! I’m still really enjoying it, and after raising £1,600 for Cancer Research last year in the Cambridge Half Marathon (if you sponsored me for that, thank you!), I decided I had to have a crack at The Big One - so I am running the TCS London Marathon in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support on October 2nd. This will be my first marathon, at the age of 45.
I will be running in memory of my late sister-in-law, Nicky, who died from breast cancer back in the year 2000. During her battle with that horrible disease, Nicky received compassionate help and support from Macmillan nurses - which is still one of the many services they provide for people living with cancer. There are around 3 million people living with cancer in the UK today, and over 360,000 more are diagnosed every year.
So, it’s time to rattle the tin! Any and all sponsorship gratefully received! Thank you :)
Formal training starts in June, but plenty of long runs in the meantime to get miles into my legs.
