Right everyone, I'm taking part in St Wilfrid's Hospice's Jail and Bail fundraising event, which will see a number of community leaders and well-known figures spending time behind bars (for entirely fictitious crimes!) at Eastbourne’s Redoubt Fortress. Please support me and give generously!
Here is my story:
Another local reprobate has been added to the list of jailbirds for Jail and Bail on March 29th at the Redoubt – the infamous Simon Groves!
Born and bred in sunny Eastbourne, Simon is well-known about the town for his role as Managing Director of PRG Marketing Communications, where he heads up the team of PR, Marketing, Web and Design experts who handle a raft of local and national clients.
When not wearing his PRG hat, Simon involves himself in a range of other voluntary activities in the local community, including acting as Vice-Chair of Governors at the wonderful Pashley Down Infant School in Old Town. He’s also dad to two cheeky little children aged five and eight.
But recently, it has come to the attention of the team at PRG that Simon seems to be constantly out at some sort of networking event, where he can be found working the room, introducing himself, solving people’s marketing dilemmas, promoting the ‘Let’s Do Business’ Exhibition in June or simply just talking to anyone who will listen. So, they decided to run a poll on PRG’s social media channels to see whether Simon needed to be punished for his crimes…
95% said yes: ‘lock him up!’
So, it’s time to make him suffer – and not just the shame of being shackled, finger-printed and slung in jail – but to make him share a cell with such local hooligans as Stephen Lloyd and David Tutt. Will they try and turn him into a Lib Dem?
However, he gets the sense that people would rather pay to keep him in. So, as long as people donate and he reaches the target, he promises to go into hiding upon his release! If not, he’ll become an ever bigger nuisance and #HospiceHooligan!
On a serious note, Simon is doing this in memory of his late colleague and friend Martyn Leek. Known affectionately as ‘Leeky,’ Martyn was working at PRG when he was diagnosed with throat cancer at the end of 2017. After extensive treatment and an operation, he was diagnosed with secondary cancer in his bones in September last year.
He sadly lost his courageous battle with cancer and passed away on 28th November. He spent his final weeks in the care of the wonderful hospice team, who looked after him and his family so well and we are all so grateful to them.
Hopefully Leeky will be looking down and having a good laugh at Simon’s expense as he gets locked up. Please support Simon and the Hospice and let’s smash the £1,000 target!
