Story

My 600 mile July cycle challenge for British Heart Foundation continues. I'm currently on 410miles!

With just a week to cycle 190 miles, I am still not where I need to be! From here on out I am going to be doubling the distance of my evening cycles.

I also have another long distance cycle challenge planned with my lab-group, including Cara Trivett and my Principal Investigator, Dr Martin McBride.

In our group, we study the genetic mechanisms underlying the drivers of both blood pressure and conditions affecting the heart muscle. We are most interested in developing strategies which can allow a patients genetics to inform how clinicians tailor drug treatments, something referred to in the field as "pharmacogenomics".

Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death globally, directly contributing an estimated 17.9 million deaths each year (WHO, 2020), many of which will be preventable in the years to come, given the bright future of cardiovascular research both here in the UK and worldwide.

Every donation to the British Heart Foundation helps fund a better world.
