Early in 2020, I listened to a presentation by Fernando Pinho of Please Take Me There. His charity helps children travel for life saving medical treatment, often across incredibly long distances and through remote country, sometimes travelling up to three days. It was humbling, not just because of the arduous journeys made by these families and their children, but also because of the selfless devotion of Fernando and his colleagues to their cause.

The impact their work has is profound and permanent, and I resolved to try to help them.

I decided to attempt a hard cycling challenge, to honour in some tiny way the often daunting journeys his clients make. It was important to me that the distance pushed me out of my comfort zone, and that the ride should be both long and difficult.

Then Covid struck, and only now are we able to really start entertaining something of this magnitude. But the window of opportunity is closing, due to the failing light, and the only viable opportunity left is Saturday August 22nd. So Aug 22nd it is!

My route will take me from my home in West Suffolk directly North to The Wash, where I will make a right turn and hug the sea until I reach Southwold. Then one more right turn, and a straight line back home. 

Sounds simple, I know! If you know me, though, you will be aware that I am about as light and aerodynamic as a full wardrobe.

Small charities have seen their income drop drastically due to Covid, so please, if you are able, support me. If you cannot, just spread the word. You are helping those truly in need.
