Story
Since 1948, the National Health Service (NHS) has been providing free healthcare at the point of need. The have saved millions of lives and improved the quality of living for countless more.
In 2008, I was diagnosed with Anorexia Nervosa, requiring treatment in a teenage inpatient facility as documented on BBC's "I'm a Boy Anorexic". This went on to require a further year of weekend visits and a decade of outpatient therapy. I am alive today because of this, yet received no bills throughout. I used this new lease on life to work hard and attain Medical and Master’s degrees from Cambridge University. I am in a much better place now and have the NHS to thank for saving my life.
The NHS has struggled at the best of times, and the recent COVID-19 situation has further highlighted its resource limitations. During this time, I have seen many people come together to show true kindness and I wanted to do the same.
At heart, I am an F1 lover and used Lewis Hamilton's drive as motivation to get better while in hospital. I had the idea to use this love for motorsport to make an impact on the NHS.
With the support of Codemasters, I will be doing a four-day gaming marathon (10am-10pm Thursday 11th June - Sunday 14th June 2020) on the F1 2019 game to mimic the shift patterns of an NHS worker. This will include a mix of single and multiplayer gaming, which will be livestreamed on Twitch (username: SimonMetin).
Thank you for any donations you can spare, along with any sharing of this event. It is all for a great cause and one we hold dear to our hearts.
I hope you all stay safe and will see you online!
