Story
We all know there is a severe lack of funding for the police in this country and the support individual forces offer isn't as good as it probably could/should be, in my opinion. There has also probably never been a more dangerous time to be a police officer. More and more officers are getting injured both physically and mentally, and the Police Treatment Centres is one of the few support options available to our police officers and staff that can provide dedicated help to them. There is currently a waiting list of officers requiring support, and the centres are doing all they can to meet that demand.
I've been to the Police Treatment Centre in Harrogate and have met with some of the clinical team. It's an incredible place where the staff dedicate themselves to helping others recover. They don't have 9-5's like most of us do. They are some of the most dedicated, hard working, and passionate people you could meet.
So, as someone who HATES running and has not done more than a half marathon before (which I walked more than half of), I thought I'd see what I can do to support their life changing service, and see if anyone else is able to offer a couple of quid to help us all reach the target.
With my father, DCI Peter Jay, having always been my hero, I'm so proud many others will get to see the case he was involved in with Des, airing on ITV in September. Having lost my father to cancer in February 2018, I'm doing this marathon in his honour, to support his fellow officers.
