Simon, Emma and Paula are part of a team attempting to swim the Channel. Apart from the obvious challenges (cold water, no wetsuits allowed, sea sickness, jelly fish, sharks ( Ok maybe no sharks) 🥶😳), our training has yet to begin in earnest due to COVID and an operation and hospital stay for Paula. Nevertheless, we are determined to complete this challenge and do our part to ensure others can benefit from Aspire’s incredible work.

Emma and I have had the pleasure of swimming with Paula for some years now. She has been a constant inspiration for us and the reason we are raising funds for ASPIRE.

Paula's story in her own words

"On May 27th 2001, I was hit by a car whilst on my bike training for a triathlon. I suffered a spinal cord injury which effectively left me paralysed from the waist down. Over the last 20 years, I have been fortunate to continue my career as a police officer, compete in several sporting events and live a full and incredibly rewarding life. This is in no small part due to the help of Aspire, a charity very close to my heart. The support and opportunities provided by Aspire in the days and months after my injury were invaluable both in terms of my mental and physical health"
