A Lift for Lifelites
On 25 May, I am setting off on the most amazing, wacky, bonkers trip of a lifetime, aiming to raise the profile of our hard working but little-known charity. We want more people to recognise the work Lifelites does with life changing technologies to help the 10,000 disabled children using every one of the 60 children’s hospice services in the British Isles to live their short lives to the full.
Thanks to the overwhelming generosity of vehicle owners all over the country, I am going to be transported to a famous landmark in every county in England and Wales in an incredibly eclectic mix of transport, at least one vehicle in every county - and sometimes more. There are so many, all driven by their owners, that I am finding it hard to remember them all. I’ll leave our Covent Garden base in a London taxi flanked by a throttle of Harley Davidsons and go on to join (in no particular order and some yet to be confirmed) a charabanc, push bike, army truck, Noddy car, Norton with side car, Bentley, Aston Martin, four-seater 'plane, canal boat, McLaren, Ferrari, Morgan, e-type Jag, tractor, horse – I could go on. I am being taken to a wedding in Jersey, a zip wire in North Wales (I am terrified!!!!) and to dinner in Cheshire. I’m planning to visit Brighton Pier, Durdle Door, Silverstone Race Track, the Eden Project, the Angel of the North, Fountains Abbey, Hadrian’s Wall and Caerleon Amphitheatre (to name but a few).
On my last day I will be taken from Essex on the Southend Pier train to be picked up by a boat over to Rochester, Kent, then, via Brands Hatch, on to the Thames Cable Car where I will be met at the O2 pier by a Thames Jet to bring me back to where I started 14 days earlier.
I am going to be exhausted!
