I have been given the wonderful opportunity through the International Citizen Service (ICS) and Restless Development to travel to South Africa and work within a local community for three months in February. 

ICS is a government funded scheme that allows young people to volunteer throughout the world to work with and aid local people. With Restless Development- the youth-led development agency, I will be working with local national volunteers to aid in health education interventions in rural communities.

As part of the ICS programme,  I have to fundraise £800 which goes towards the continued running of the scheme. It sends over seven thousand young people to the worlds most poverty stricken areas every year. While the scheme is funded 90% by the UK government, the final  10 % is raised through this fundraising- making it a vital part. 

Over the next few months, I will be doing a variety of sponsored events- a run (everyone already knows how much I love exercise...), bake sales and even offering some christmas wrapping services!
