Howdy.
This year in June is the fifth year since my mother, Claire, passed away after a short fight against lung cancer.
While she was ill, mum and the rest of my family were supported by the MacMillan nurses. They cared for my mum, making the last period of her life as comfortable as possible; this is something I am so grateful for today.
Last year - in a fit of, I don't know, insanity? - I decided to run a triathlon, partly to challenge myself physically in a way I have never been challenged, but mostly to raise money and commemorate my mum.
What am I doing? I am going to swim/cycle/run the Windsor Triathlon. This wee race consists of a 1.5km open water swim, a 42km cycle, and a 10km run. Consecutively. One after the other. Continuously. Think about this: during the Beijing Olympics, the men's gold medal winner did the above in under two hours. I am aiming to not be too far behind that... Ahem.
So! Where do you come in? Well, to paraphrase Billy Connolly and/or Bob Geldof; give me your money! Please help me raise the somewhat modest amount (just above, have a squint) which will go to MacMillan Nurses to help them continue the difficult, vital, and compassionate work. Also, remember, if you are a UK taxpayer, make sure to tick the Gift Aid box too!
Thanks for visiting my fundraising page. Sponsor Me. Now. Please.
***UPDATE***
Having achieved the £1000 target, I've upped the target, as I know there are a lot of you who haven't helped me yet. Please help me achieve this new target for Macmillan, and help me stay motivated for the biggest physical challenge of my life. Thanks.
*** UPDATE ***
I did it; I completed the triathlon in 2 hours, 35 minutes and 19seconds. I'm really chuffed about this time, as I was hoping a time of between three and three and a half hours may be plausible. Think I may have to give another one a go...
