Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
My brother in law was a wonderful man. it was always good to spend time with Ned and we would be the naughty boys at the family table, reminiscing about music and films and stuff. It was 6 months from diagnosis to death, and I've never seen anyone move to a place of acceptance and openness so quickly. His and Rachel's ability to face the future (and talk about it) freed everyone else to deal with it all so much better. Maybe by doing this swim I'm reminding myself of all the good things about Ned I don't want to forget.
Why am I doing this? Well, I like swimming, and I like a challenge, and I'm on holiday in Penzance - so why not combine them all in support of a really great cause?
So - for the men, facts and figures - last year I completed the course in 20 minutes and came 76th out of 353. I came 16th in my age group, and 57th out of the men. The winner did it in 14 minutes, 30 secs!!
And emotions and touchy freely stuff for the women - It felt very strange to swim in a wetsuit, which gives you more buoyancy, and I forgot my goggles at the start. This meant I didn't get frightened by seeing the bottom of the sea, but also everything was a bit blurry which didn't help me concentrate.
McMillan is special because I can't imagine any other organisation doing what they do. And you generally only discover them when you need them, which makes them a bit hidden. Yet what they do is vital and changes lives of those affected by cancer, friends and families - even me!
