Story
For those out there who know me, I like a challenge and this one is worthy. On the 21st of May I am going to be taking on the David Goggin's challenge. I will be running 4 miles every 4 hours for 48 hours. For the math whizz's out there you will quickly work out that this is 13 reps and equals a total of 52 miles. Now on the face of it, you might think that this isn't that hard.......... I guess I'm going to find out. The challenge was invented by David Goggins, an endurance athlete, Navy Seal and all round tough man. So I'm sure that it won't be that bad..................
Why am I doing it. I recently lost one of my best friends. WO2 Jason Barton of the 6th Battalion the Rifles passed away a couple of months ago. Jason was a Cpl on my first Operational Tour in Afghanistan on Herrick 5. The bloke was a legend. A great confidant and a flipping wind up merchant, who would spend most of the day working out his next prank! He was a fierce leader and dedicated family man who led by example in everyway you could imagine. I was grateful for the time I had with him and I am lost without him. In every negative though there is a positive and it is what you make it. If Jase was here now he would probably encouraging me on whilst secretly pouring chilli sauce in my water bottle.
This disease has taken a lot from everyone I know. This isn't the first time it has reared it's head with my family & it's not going away anytime soon. This is going to be the first of a few ventures against this disease. For those wanting to follow my progress I will be uploading my runs to Strava and then onto Facebook. £1050 is the target and anything you can give would be fantastic. I'd like to say that no athletes will be harmed during this challenge, only an idiot! Wish me luck and hold my beer...............
