Story
I have had asthma my whole life. It was quite bad when I was younger and I suffered with many asthma attacks, resulting in multiple hospital visits. I have memories in my youth of lying in bed whilst my parents used a foot powered nebuliser on me to help me breathe. Fortunately, my asthma is a lot milder now and I am able to exercise quite regularly.
As well as having asthma, I also started having seizures when I was 16. After a few hospital visits it was decided that I should undergo brain surgery to remove a cavernoma that was causing the seizures. I had the procedure when I was 17.
I consider myself very lucky to still be here today and to be in a position where I could contemplate running a marathon. I am doing this for all those people who have had similar ailments to me but have not been as fortunate.
I have not done any kind of distance running before, so essentially I am doing a "couch to marathon". I hope you can help me with my fundraising, here is a bit about the charity Asthma UK.
3 people die from an asthma attack every day in the UK. I'm running the London Marathon for Asthma UK, who work to stop asthma attacks and ultimately cure asthma. Every pound I'm able to raise will take us a step closer to a world without asthma. Just £22 allows one of Asthma UK's nurses to answer a call on the Helpline, offering potentially lifesaving advice. I'd be very grateful for any donations you could make!
