Story
Update: Unfortunately I (Simon) now can’t jump for medical reasons. Thankfully a friend, Jake, has opted to take my place and complete the jump for me.
I hadn't heard of SSNAP till 31st December 2017. A date that will forever be in my mind as this was the day my son was born. Being that you found your way here you may be aware Austin was 7 weeks Premature and came as a complete surprise. In the coming days and weeks I would come to learn about SSNAP and see first hand just a little bit of what they can achieve.
They fund all manner of things some you see, some you don't and some you see but just don't realise. Blankets to go over incubators to help baby relax. Coffee to help parents feel a little more comfortable. Breast pumps to make sure tube fed babies still can get mothers milk. Accommodation so parents can stay close by when times are tough. Clinical Psychologists for when the parents need support. This is just a snapshot of what SSNAP already provide. On top of all this they are constantly working in the background and alongside NHS staff to see what more can be done. Not only what more can be provided but also funding research into the future care of premature babies
We were extremely lucky, Austin was strong and came out fighting 7 weeks early. He didn't have many complications and we mainly had to wait for him to get strong enough to come home. We needed SSNAP and before we even knew who they were they were already helping.
