Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Taking part in my first ever 10k running event to raise money for The Christie because of the treatment my family have received over the past few years.  Always felt like I have wanted to give back so any donations are greatly welcomed no matter the amount!

One of the main reasons I want to do this event is to give back to The Christie for the journey Peter Hinds (my step dad) has been on over the past few years.

Petes journey with the Christie-

I had my first appointment at The Christie 02/04/18, it was the first time I met Dr Angela Lamarca or the Angel as I call her. Within 2 hours I was admitted into hospital, given an appointment to start chemotherapy and most importantly hope and belief that I had a chance. I was in a week and left a new man for the first time in 3 months I was able to eat without being sick.

I was diagnosed with Terminal Cancer at Warrington Hospital on the 26/01/18 and told I had less than 6 months to live with no treatments options and surgery being ruled out forever.

I started Chemotherapy at the end of April consisting of 12 sessions of Folfiranox every 2 weeks it wasn’t all plain sailing by any means but the support and comforting of the staff made it bearable. I had my last dose of Chemo on the 05/11/18 knowing my tumor marker which started at 980 in April finished on 17 in November clearly it had worked.

I went to see Dr Angela Lamarca and she told she would put my case forward to the MDT for surgery but without promises they would
accept. I got a phone call on the 01/12/18 saying I had been accepted for surgery.
I had a Whipple operation on the 05/12/18 which is a re-sectioning of the bowel with half my Pancreas and my Gall bladder removed and well as my Duodenum where the Tumor was.

I started the year being told there was no treatment options available and finished the year having completed treatment and the tumor being removed.

I continue being under the care of The Christie and I have just started Radiotherapy knowing I couldn’t be at a better hospital and in better care.

To be under the care of a world leading Cancer hospital is very reassuring to me and my family.
Every visit is a pleasure and to see the care given to patients and to hear the truly inspirational stories of the patients I will never tire off.

To hear the bell being rung when someone’s treatment is over still brings a tear to my eye’s as I know how I felt when it was my turn to ring it on the 05/11/18, a day forever etched in my memory.
