Story
When my wife and I were expecting our first baby, we went to our 12-week scan full of hope and excitement for the months ahead. Sadly, we were told the devastating news that there might be something wrong.
What followed were months of tests, with occasional encouraging news followed by bad, and huge uncertainty as to what was going on. The NHS staff were amazing, but the science of pre-natal testing is still developing, and there are so many limitations as to what the doctors can tell you. We found ourselves facing difficult choices with no clear information about the path ahead.
Our experience is far from unique - thousands of families every year are given the awful news that their baby may have a genetic or structural condition. ARC exists to help parents in that situation, offering free advice and counselling to support parents make the difficult decisions that they faced. They helped us hugely when we needed it the most.
Sadly for us, our story did not have a happy ending. We lost our daughter (Bethany) when my wife was 32 weeks pregnant. I am immensely proud to be running the marathon in her memory, and to help raise money for the great work that ARC does.
Every £1 donated really makes a huge difference to ARC, so thank you so much for giving generously.
