Fundraising for The Candlelighters Trust
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. Please give generously as Candlelighters helped me through my own cancer story (see below) and helped many more children and their families throughout their struggle with cancer.
In June 1996, aged 13, I was diagnosed as having MEDULLABLASTOMA and had a ten hour operation at Leeds General Infirmary to remove the tumour.
This is a malignant tumour that is the most common brain tumour found in children, and affects many more children than adults.
The tumour affects the cerebellum (at the back of the brain) which controls motor skills such as balance, posture, walking and physical co-ordination.
Due to the skill of the surgeons, medical staff and radiologists, I have no long term ill effects. The subsequent extensive radiotherapy resulted in the permanent loss of hair on the site of treatment, and in part malfunction of the pituitary gland.
