Story
Here it is, The London Marathon. Game 6.
I have done a few marathons in the past but this is the one I've been targeting
Most importantly though, it gives me a great opportunity to raise awareness (and money) for my Local Harpenden Mencap.
They, as a small regional charity, only take the Mencap name, therefore rely 100% on donations in order to keep up the support they offer to individuals and families of those with Learning Disabilities.
In the past I have seen the work they do to great effect with my Sister Helen. On a more recent level I see the what they continue to do in the local community with my current role, and increasingly people with Learning Disabilities are being heard, and benefiting from local support.
However with my line of work I also see what happens when services that rely upon donations have to shut down. A vital part of an individuals life is removed, and they are once again at risk of becoming marginalised in society.
So... in supporting me in my silly Marathon efforts, you are doing more than giving me extra incentive to run that bit faster, but you will be directly helping people with Learning Disabilities to get the opportunities they deserve. With continued donations services can continue to run, and people with Learning Disabilities become more involved in their local community.
Thank you for having a read of this, hopefully see you on the route, and mostly thank you for any pennies you donate.
