Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Shaun plans to do his Triathlon in June 2021 which will include a 10 length swim, a five mile bike ride and a 1 mile run. He started Primary school with a diagnosis and he ends it smashing his goal!
I have left the original description below so you understand his past.
Shaun started life as a happy, intelligent, full of beans little boy; he was extremely active and really enjoyed the great outdoors. His big beautiful smile and chirpy nature was certainly contagious.
Sadly shortly after starting school Shaun started to become extremely anxious, we obviously presumed it was the new start but over time the anxiety became worse and along with this he started to have mobility problems. He was diagnosed with hyper mobility and given physiotherapy but unfortunately Shaun's problems began to deteriorate. After numerous appointments and telephone calls we eventually got an appointment with the Community Paediatrician who alerted us to the fact that Shaun could be suffering from something serious.
On June 10th 2015 Shaun had an MRI scan which confirmed our absolute worst nightmare, Shaun had a huge amount of fluid on his brain, we had to make the trip that evening to Southampton hospital unaware of what our future may hold. During the night we were told the devastating news that the blockage was in fact a Brain Tumour, it was without doubt the longest most terrifying time of our lives.
On Thursday 11th June 2015 Shaun endured brain surgery to relieve the pressure and reroute the fluid around the Tumour. Our darling beautiful, kind little boy remained polite and cheerful throughout the whole ordeal and made us so very proud. The saying that 'heroes come in all forms' could not have been more applicable.
Thankfully Shaun's Tumour is benign and although he may face obstacles in the future and may have to endure further treatment, with careful monitoring his prognosis is good, sadly this is not always the case and in fact 'Brain Tumours kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer and yet just 1% of the national spend on cancer research is allocated to this devastating disease' (Braintumourresearch.org)
This fact fills us both as parents with absolute fear and something we are just not happy to accept with this in mind we hope to try to raise money for this needy cause.
Simon Shaun's dad has planned to do a Triathlon to start the fund raising. It will take place on Sunday 4th October 2015 and will follow the journey we had to do from our home at Wareham to the hospital in Southampton where Shaun was treated. In will consist of a 1 mile swim, a 50 mile bike ride and a 5 mile run
There will be many wonderful children and families that face this terrifying disease and we hope to make our contribution however small to hopefully one day give hope to all Brain Tumour patients.
