Story
My father died of pancreatic cancer nearly 50 years ago. And the diagnosis, treatment and survival rate have not changed much since. This is for him!
For anyone, a diagnosis of cancer is a difficult and life changing moment. For people diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, it is especially devastating.
1 in 4 people will lose their lives within a month of a pancreatic cancer diagnosis, and 1 in 2 won’t survive beyond three months.
Pancreatic cancer is the toughest cancer to diagnose, treat and survive. Shockingly, the only curative treatment available today is surgery, which only 8% of those diagnosed will have access to. This means that thousands of people are left powerless to fight pancreatic cancer, without treatment and hope for their future. And nothing has really changed in the 50 years since my father died from pancreatic cancer! I, along with all the 3 Peaks Challenge team and everyone at Pancreatic Cancer UK, are committed this can't continue to be the outlook for people diagnosed with the horrendous disease!
Because pancreatic cancer is so tough, we’ve decided to take on a very tough physical (and mental!) challenge. We’re a team of 8 who’ve come together to raise funds to fight the deadliest common cancer; funding ground-breaking research to develop life-saving treatments for people with pancreatic cancer.
On the 26th September, myself and the team have chosen to take on the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge – 24 miles of walking, 1381m of climbing over 3 peaks- all in 12 hours. So rest-assured we will still be testing our limits! We are committed and determined to complete this challenge to raise funds for this fantastic and worthy cause, and we would be honoured to have your support.
My personal goal is to raise at least £100,000 towards the team goal
Delivering on our team goal of £350,000 will take PCUK one-step closer to finding desperately needed treatments for pancreatic cancer, by funding Pancreatic Cancer UK’s Grand Challenge, to harness the exciting potential of immunotherapy to extend the lives of people facing pancreatic cancer.
