Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page!
I am running 2021 miles in 2021, raising money for Orchid.
That's about one and a half marathons a week, every week for the year...
or.....
the distance from Land's End to John O'Groats, back to Land's End, and then just a few hundred miles around a field to finish....
or......
almost the same distance as running from one side of North America to the other!
Why Orchid?
Well, here's a bit of family history! During June 2000, my Dad was diagnosed with cancer. Testicular cancer to be precise. It is something that effects over 2,400 men every year and I guess it is one of those things that you never really think about unless it creeps up on you or someone you know. The good news is that following surgery and treatment he overcame the cancer with a clean bill of health!
Why during 2021?
Without Orchid and other cancer charities carrying out research that lead to the surgery and the support that these charities offer, my Dad may not still be around. We’ve now made it past the big milestone of 20 years (and counting!) since diagnosis. That is 20+ years of "extra time" which of course we are hugely grateful for! 21 years in 2021! The fact that both my own sons, Jacob and Douglas, along with my nephew Noah get to grow up with their Grandad is phenomenal. So I see this as a huge reason to raise these funds and I hope that we can help to continue to fund Orchid with their education and research programme to allow others to beat the big "C"!
How?
To get there I will include training runs along with the London to Brighton 100km event in May, Yorkshire 100km event in July and the London Marathon in October!
If it's not a logged run on Strava, it doesn't count! Better get running!
