Greg Savage was diagnosed in September 2015 with Duchenne muscular dystrophy, a progressive muscle-wasting condition for which there is currently no cure. I am raising funds for essential research into this condition, research that has made some great progress recently to really make a difference and improve the quality of life of young people like Greg.
I didn't plan to do this challenge from the very start – it began as R.E.D. (run every day) January to as a personal challenge. The long, dark, wet Cumbrian days were tough, but when the 1st of February arrived I found I wanted to go for another run and wondered how far I could push it.
Setting myself a daily minimum distance of 3 miles (5k) this has developed into a greater challenge of running 2,000miles over the year which will mean running an average of 38.5 miles a week or 5.5 miles a day.
I plan to keep things interesting by incorporating some “milestones” along the way – the most ambitious of which is my first “ultra” (an event longer than a standard marathon) in the form of the “Keswick to Kendal” challenge on 28th July. 33 miles following a straight line between the two towns that will take in the second highest peak in England (Helvellyn) and around 10,000 feet of climbing...
