I signed up for this wee jaunt last November just after my father was re-diagnosed with Cancer. Unfortunately he passed away earlier in the year as have several friends over the last few years. Other friends have manged to overcome it. I am doing it for all of them. Big advances are being made and survival rates are increasing; with your help they can get even better.
The bike bit. It is going to be hard, damned hard. 108 miles (174km) in the hot alpine summer with the odd bit of altitude thrown in. Now the going up bit is the hard bit 5180 m or 16994 ft (in old money) is a lot of up. That is 370 m more than the height of Mt. Blanc or 77 x the height of the Wallace Monument. It is going to hurt...alot...and for a long time....12hrs I guess.
It starts on the 5th July, the same day as the Tour de France. It climbs some of the TDF classic cols including Glandon, Telegraphe, Galibier before finishing up the Alpe du Huez. Did I say it is going to be hard.
