Story
Hi there, thank you for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page. My name is Annie and on Sunday the 3rd October 2021, my dad Simon and I will be running the London Marathon for Muscular Dystrophy UK. This charity is very close to our hearts and for those of you who don't already know, here's why......
Nineteen years ago my gorgeous younger brother Sidney was born with a severe form of Congenital Myotonic Muscular Dystrophy, a condition which has a huge impact on his day-to-day life. Many of the things you or I take for granted such as walking and talking, Sid cannot do. His condition also means that he requires home medical interventions on a daily basis, as well as frequent hospital visits.
Having myself run the virtual London Marathon in October of last year, when the opportunity arose for me to run again but in London this year, it was something I could not turn down. At the start of the year my dad asked if I would like him to run the marathon with me in October and my immediate response was yes - how many people get to run a marathon with their dad whilst raising money for such a special and important charity?
Despite all the struggles Sid faces, he tackles any challenge with determination and a big smile on his face. He is so happy, funny and affectionate and brings so much happiness and light into the lives of all those who know him. He is our biggest inspiration.
As father and daughter we feel honoured to be able to represent Team Orange in the London Marathon 2021, for our superstar brother and son, as well as the 70,000 other people in the UK living with muscle-wasting conditions.
