Story
I am running the London Marathon 2023 for Headway - the brain injury association.
As many of you will know back in 2019 I signed up for the 2020 London Marathon after running no more than 5K. I had recently had to stop playing rugby after 20 years due to too many concussions but thankfully no serious damage.
With cancellations to events due to the global pandemic, delays to the rearranged marathon it looked like I wouldn’t get to run the race. I did manage to run two virtual marathons initially raising £3,200 for Headway but now, three years later than planned I have the chance to finally run the actual course and see how much more we can help this charity and the great work they do.
Here’s a bit about Headway and the amazing work they do:
“Brain injury can challenge every aspect of your life walking, talking, thinking and feeling and the losses can be severe and permanent. It can mean losing the life you once lived and the person you once were.
We all think 'it will never happen to me', but every year around 350,000 people are admitted to hospital with an acquired brain injury. That's one every 90 seconds.
A brain injury can happen to anyone, at any time. When it does, Headway is here to help.”
