Story
As many of you know, we lost our mum this year to Motor Neurone Disease and Fronto-Temporal Dementia. In her memory, we have decided to take part in the final Midnight Walk to raise money for the Florence Nightingale Hospice.
Mum was our world, she took part in the Midnight Walk every year and never missed an opportunity to help raise money for them. From the moment Mum was diagnosed with MND in July last year, Florrie’s provided us with specialist care; from Palliative Respiratory Physiotherapists and Clinical Nurse Specialists to Hospice at Home teams. Nothing was too much trouble for them.
Mum spent her final week in hospice, where staff would always bring us brownies, cups of tea or would even sit and ask us about our favourite childhood memories and mum would listen, hold their hands and smile. Staff learned everything about us as a family, understanding what was important to us to ensure Mum got the care and ultimately the dignity in death that she so rightly deserved. They made us feel seen, answered every difficult question with honesty and humility and gave us memories that we will hold forever.
When you donate and support Florrie’s, you help families like ours. Donations provide funds for health care assistants, specialist nurses, equipment and bereavement support for loved ones in the depths of grief and loss.
We ask you to help us by donating what you can, to make sure that Florence Nightingale Hospice continues to support so many other patients and their families.
It takes a special person to confront a life-limiting or terminal illness, your own or a loved ones, with courage and dignity. That's what we see every day at Florence Nightingale Hospice. It also takes special people to comfort those who are dying, to manage their pain, and to care for them in their last years, months and days. You will find these people at Florence Nightingale Hospice, taking care of patients, and also consoling and reassuring their families. We are honoured that over the years hundreds of people have taken on the physical and mental challenge of the Midnight Walk to raise money to enable the Florence Nightingale Hospice nurses, staff and volunteers to continue their work, at the Hospice and in patients' homes. Help us to make this final Midnight Walk the best one ever.
