Story
T Hafan is one of the UKs leading paediatric palliative care charities and offers the only childrens hospice service in south Wales. If you think this means we simply provide a place where children can come to die, you couldnt be further from the truth. We offer comfort, care and support to life-limited children, young people and their families so they can make the most of the time they have left together. We allow parents and carers to relax and recharge their batteries. And we make sure the needs of brothers and sisters are never forgotten.
Evie was born at home eight years ago after an unknown pregnancy. She was born 14 weeks premature. A day we will never forget.
I gave birth in my parents bathroom.
Evie lacked specialist equipment and was deprived of oxygen. She was resuscitated all the way to hospital where I joined her.
For the next 5 months she battled serious illnesses, pneumonias, and major operations. She contracted NEC (Necrotising enterocolitis) and had to have surgery to remove 50% of her intestines.
We had to travel to hospitals daily (after I had been discharged) to Singleton hospital & UHW in Cardiff. There were times we had to "move in" to the hospitals so we were close at hand.
In January 2013, Evie had no fight left. We were referred to Ty Hafan. We spent the next few days together as a family. I could hold my baby any time I wanted, I could dress her, I could bathe her. All things I could not do whilst she was in hospital. We even appeared on the ITV news.
On January 30th Evie passed away peacefully in my arms with Gary & Megan at my side.
The support we continue to have from Tŷ Hafan is amazing and we have experienced things some people may never understand so please dig deep and donate.
Thank you.
