Story
It’s been a loooong time since I’ve put on any running shoes, I did a marathon back in 2013 - I ran for fun, I enjoyed the training, I didn’t get sponsored because it didn’t feel hard enough to ask my friends and family to open their wallets.
Jump forward 8 years, +3 kids (making a total of 4 ), +15KGs, busy job, out of shape, well past my prime. This next run is going to be very hard! I'm taking on the challenge and enduring the pain to raise money for university students who need a helping hand to make the most of their studies and level-up for a brighter future.
As one of the first in my family to get a university degree I found it a challenging but life-changing experience, one that I would recommend to all who are willing and able, it can profoundly impact the course of your life, as it did mine, and help you harness one of the greatest sources of our potential; the human mind.
I found uni years tough! Amassing huge debts, Balancing part time jobs, Struggling to find MY path, I failed exams in both 1st and 2nd years and had to spend my summers studying for the re-test. There were a few things that really helped me get through, one of them was the students union and the financial grants and other support that helped me push through the struggle and put me on the path I'm on.
This Sunday I'm running the Brighton Marathon 2021 and taking on the challenge to raise £400 (or more!) for the University of Brighton's Student Potential Fund.
This charity fund helps students seize opportunities, make the most of their studies, build employability skills and embrace their full university experience.
Every penny raised empowers students to seize opportunities that grow their knowledge, skills, ambitions and self-confidence to choose their future. Whatever journey students are on, the University of Brightons community encourages them to stay curious and put what they learn into practice. Please take a look at the page and donate to this important cause. Thank you!
