Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

On new years day I found out my Uncle Mahon had been taken into hospital with what doctors then suspected to be pneumonia. This on its own was horrible news, to make things worse, he lived in Vietnam. They started treating him with antibiotics but by the next day they realised these weren't working and had to put a tube into his lungs to help him breath. The next morning the 3rd of January we got news through that he had suffered with multiple organ failure over night and that a family member had to get the as quick as possible. My mother Maeve flew out and landed midday local time ( 5 in the morning GMT). She was quickly rushed to where my uncle lay fighting on his life support machine. My mother only got to spend one hour with her brother before having to make the call to her other brothers to say that the machine needed to be turned off. Mahon died on the 4th of January. My uncles friends and fiancee kept telling him to hold on, telling him that his sister was on her way. And thats what he did. He fought until she got there. Although his body was ruined he fought just for that little longer.

This is why I want to walk this 100km challenge from London to Brighton. I want to fight through the aches and pains. I want to keep on going even when my body wants to give up. I want to fight just like my Uncle did.

I picked MIND as my Uncle dealt with depression for some of his life and I want to help other surrerers who are lost and lonely. By raising money for them I hope to fund the staff needed to help these people through their rough patches.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails.
