Story
Thanks for visiting my page. I'm raising money for the British Heart Foundation's research and I'd be so grateful for your support. The BHF has helped halve the number of people dying from heart and circulatory disease in the UK but sadly every day hundreds of people lose their lives. It's only thanks to support from people like us that the BHF can create new treatments and discover new cures. £24 could pay for two hours of research by an early career scientist.
I am thrilled to be taking part in the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100 miles bike ride on Sunday 4th August 2019. Every penny raised will go towards the Miles Frost Fund, helping better identify and understand genetic causes of heart disease.
The Fund will help ensure that genetic testing for immediate family members of those affected by Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is available nationwide. HCM is an inherited disease of your heart muscle, where the muscle wall of your heart becomes thickened.
HCM is a genetic condition caused by a change or mutation in one or more genes and is passed on through families. Each child of someone with HCM has a 50 per cent chance of inheriting the condition.
About 1 in 500 of the UK population has the condition, although most people who have it have few, if any, symptoms.
Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100 2019 will see 25,000 riders take on the legendary a 100-mile closed road circuit through London and Surrey, inspired by the 2012 Olympic Road Race.
The route begins in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, then winds its way through the capital and into Surrey's stunning country roads, taking in two iconic climbs: Leith and Box Hill, before a triumphant finish on the Mall.
A donation from you, no matter how big or small will go a long way to helping genetic causes of heart disease.
Yours gratefully,
Shiv
