Story
For as long as I can remember, I have always had two fundamental passions - exercise and mental health. There are countless peer-reviewed studies that show the significant impact of exercise on mood disorders such as depression and anxiety, two of the most common reasons people seek mental health treatment in America. As a Therapist, I too, have seen first hand the effectiveness of exercise in assisting depression and anxiety, and have prescribed this as interventions for my clients, watching many improve their lives. It was for this reason that I joined Fit4TheCause, an organization that brings nutrition, health, and fitness to underserved populations to improve lives and increase access to services for those that may otherwise not receive them. This will benefit our target population by increasing our capacity to continue to provide the much needed services to those in need. In this way people and communities can work together to improve and thrive.
The Fit 4 The Cause mission statement states, "In response to America’s healthcare crisis, Fit 4 The Cause provides diverse exercise and nutrition education programs for low-income communities, many of them with special needs. We serve thousands of beneficiaries including vulnerable children, at-risk teens and fragile seniors in Ventura, Simi Valley, Conejo Valley and the San Fernando Valley. We continue to keep our communities together during the pandemic, offering virtual classes daily. We track progress through our programs and the well-being of these groups".
Your dollars directly support fitness and nutrition programs for low-income communities, including those with special needs. As an IRS determined non-profit organization, we know it is our duty to allocate 70% of our donations directly to our tailored programs for low-income communities. Through a grant from Ventura’s Human Service Center, we enjoy living rent-free with Community Conscience’s 12 local non-profit agencies, working together in serving our community’s needs.
